Cookie Policy

Tutype uses only the cookies and browser storage it needs to work. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or third-party analytics cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of to avoid tracking.

1. What cookies and browser storage are

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Local storage and cache storage are similar features that let a site keep information on your own device. This policy covers all of them, and should be read with our Privacy Policy.

2. Cookies we use

These cookies are strictly necessary. Without them you could not sign in or stay signed in, so they are set without asking for consent, as the law allows.

  • Session cookie (named like next-auth.session-token): keeps you signed in. It lasts up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
  • Security cookie (named like next-auth.csrf-token): protects sign-in forms from forged requests. It ends when you close your browser.
  • Sign-in return cookie (named like next-auth.callback-url): remembers which page to return you to after signing in. It ends when you close your browser.

On secure connections these names may begin with __Secure- or __Host-. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, those services set their own cookies on their own sites under their own policies.

3. Storage on your device

  • Local storage keeps your practice progress, settings, theme, keyboard layout and learning path on your device, so practice works without an account. It stays until you clear it.
  • Cache storage and an offline helper (a service worker) keep the app and any lessons you download available offline. Removing a download or clearing site data removes them.

This information stays on your device. It is sent to our servers only when you are signed in and progress sync saves your practice measurements to your account.

4. What we do not use

We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, cross-site tracking or third-party analytics cookies, and we do not let advertisers place cookies on Tutype. If error monitoring is turned on, it reports errors without setting tracking cookies or recording sessions.

5. Your choices

You can view and delete cookies and site data in your browser's settings, and set your browser to block cookies. If you block or delete the cookies above you will be signed out and will not be able to sign in. Clearing site data also deletes guest progress saved on that device, so sign in first if you want to keep it. On a shared computer, see the shared-computer steps.

6. Changes and contact

If we ever want to use a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it. Questions can be sent to the Contact page.
