The relative atomic masses of hydrogen and oxygen are 1 and 16. So the relative molecular mass of water, H2O, is (2 x 1) + 16 = 18. If 36 g of water is split, the number of moles is 36 / 18 = 2 mol. Check that your units cancel, and round your final answer to the right number of figures.
