Population growth puts pressure on land, water and jobs. Between 1969 and 2019, Kenya's population grew from about 11 million to about 47 million. Urban areas such as Nairobi and Mombasa attract people looking for work, but housing and services struggle to keep up. Planners must balance growth with the conservation of forests and rivers.
