A business makes a profit when its revenue is greater than its costs. Suppose a shop sells 200 loaves at 60 shillings each and pays 9,000 shillings for flour, wages and rent. Revenue is 200 x 60 = 12,000, so profit is 12,000 - 9,000 = 3,000 shillings. The profit margin is 3,000 / 12,000 x 100 = 25%.
